Chauma candidate in second attempt to clinch TZ’s topmost political post

Dar es Salaam. The presidential aspirant from Chama cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHauma) Mr Hashim Rungwe yesterday collected the presidential nomination forms, saying he has what it takes to lead the country.

Escorted by party’s suppoters to the National Electoral Commission offices in the city, Mr Rungwe called for other political parties to embrace peace and harmony during this campaign period saying the nation is greater than their respective parties.

He termed those defecting from their parties as greedy and that they are seeking leadership just to secure their interests and not to save Tanzanians.

“In football when a coach leaves you out of a squad, it means you are not suitable for that particular day and there is no way as a player can decide to dump the team,” he said

NEC issued a timetable for the programme last week and so far four aspirants from four parties have collected theirs.

Those who have already collected the forms include Democratic Party (DP) chairman Rev Christopher Mtikila, United People’s Democratic Party (UPDP), Mr Fahmi Dovutwa and Tanzania Labour Party (TLP) Mr Macmillan Lyimo.

Tommorow at 9am it will be the turn of the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) while the Tanzania Democratic Alliance (Tadea) and Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT-Wazalendo) have been scheduled to pick up the forms on August 17.

Duly filled in and signed forms should be returned before August 21 while campaigns will kick off on August 22, according to Nec directives.

Each presidential aspirant would be required to look for 200 guarantors from eight regions from Mainland Tanzania and two from Zanzibar.

Meanwhile Ccm presidential candidate Dr John Magufuli is today expected to collect presidential forms and the National Electoral Commission (NEC) headquarters. Nape Nnauye, the CCM publicity secretary told reporters yesterday that Mr Magufuli is expected to start off his journey at the party’s headquarters located Lumumba at around 11am and will be escorted by officials from the party including the party’s deputy chairman for mainland Mr Phillip Mangula and the Secretary General Mr Abdurahman Kinana.
