Coca-Cola, Oryx Gas support hundreds of young food vendors in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam.  Beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola Kwanza on Sunday partnered with Oryx Gas and the Institute of Social Work to launch this year’s 'Chipsika Kiajira na Coke,' a youth economic inclusion project aimed at supporting more than 1,100 young food vendors in major cities in Tanzania.


Chips is a famous street food that employs many young people in Tanzania, and Coca-Cola Kwanza is committed to supporting these vendors by providing them with the tools of trade they need to succeed. These include special gas stoves, 15kg Oryx gas cylinders, customer benches, kitchen clothing items, and special food cabinets.


In addition to providing these tools, Coca-Cola Kwanza is also training the young vendors on customer services, stress management, record keeping, and capital growth. This training will help them to run their businesses more efficiently and effectively, and to provide better service to their customers.


Speaking at the hand over event, Mr. Saad Mtambule, Kinondoni District Commissioner commended Coca-Cola Kwanza for their efforts in supporting the economic inclusion of young people in Tanzania through the ‘Chipsika Kiajira na Coke’ project.

“This project will not only provide young food vendors with the tools and skills they need to succeed, but it will also contribute to the overall economic growth of our region. I am pleased to see a special focus on people with disability in this program, physically challenged people must be part of an inclusive economy.”


He added: At Coca-Cola Kwanza, we believe in the power of youth entrepreneurship to drive economic growth and create sustainable communities.  At Coca-Cola Kwanza, we are committed to supporting the economic empowerment of young people in Tanzania, and this project is just one of the many ways we are working to achieve this goal.


According to Coca-Cola Kwanza's Public Affairs and Communications Director, Salum Nassor, they recognize that young people play a critical role in driving economic growth and development.

“We are proud to partner with Oryx gas and the Institute of Social Work to launch this year’s Chipsika Kiajira na Coke, which will further propel these young entrepreneurs in their path to success. Today we have more than 700 attendees and 450 direct beneficiaries, I am encouraged by the turn up.  We are committed to supporting the economic empowerment of young people in Tanzania and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project. By supporting these young food vendors, we are not only creating jobs and economic opportunities, but we are also building a more inclusive and prosperous society,” he said earlier.


Representing more than 900 beneficiaries from last year, one young entrepreneur said  Hussein Said, a resident of Ubungo a previous beneficiary of the program, said the impact has had a positive effect on his business.

“The training I received on customer services, stress management, record keeping, and capital growth has helped me to run my business more efficiently and to provide better service to my customers. I am grateful to Coca-Cola Kwanza, Oryx gas and the Institute of Social Work for their support and for believing in the power of youth entrepreneurship.
