Council announces new fees for Ubungo Bus Terminal

Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam City Council has raised fees to people and vehicles accessing services at the Ubungo Bus Terminal (UBT).
The new charges also apply to taxis parked inside and outside the terminal as well as private cars of people who go to pick or escort their relatives. According to the notice seen by The Citizen on Sunday, the charges have been reviewed based on the 2009 by-laws which repealed those enacted in 2004.
The charges have been categorised depending on the type of vehicle and nature of activity. The fee rates for vehicles that enter the terminal also range depending on the size of the vehicle. From now, the fees for vehicles with the capacity of carrying between seven and 20 passengers will be charged Sh1,500; those while carry between 20 and 28 passengers would be charged Sh2,500. Buses transporting more than 28 passengers will attract Sh3,000 fee per day.
Taxis which carry four or less passengers will be subjected to the Sh500 entrance fee while trucks weighing less than three tonnes would attract a fee of Sh3,000.
Lorries weighing over three tonnes would now be charged Sh5,000 and fee for pick-ups has been set at Sh1,000. Other vehicles would pay Sh1,000 to access the terminal while users of motorcycles and bicycles would pay Sh300 and Sh200 respectively.
The fee rates for packing vehicles inside the bus station have also been improved in accordance with the 2009 by-laws. Vehicles with the capacity of carrying between 7 to 20 passengers would be charged Sh2,000 while the fees for those carrying between 20 and 28 would be Sh3,000. Those ferrying more than 28 passengers would attract a fee of Sh4,000.
Taxis carrying four or less passengers would attract a fee of Sh2,000 to park in the terminal; while trucks not exceeding three tonnes would attract a fee of Sh4,000 and trucks weighing more than three tonnes would be charged Sh5,000.
While pick-ups would be charged Sh2,000 for parking, the other models would attract a fee of Sh2,000 with motorcycles and bicycles charged Sh500 and Sh400 respectively.
Furthermore, the fee rates for daily use of the terminal by the travel agencies have also been reviewed whereby taxi cabs that park inside the terminal would attract a fee of Sh2,500 per day while operators of taxis that park outside would cought out Sh2,000 per day; and pick-ups that park inside the terminal would be charged Sh2,500.
