Economic society of Tanzania members to meet on Friday

The Economic Society of Tanzania (EST) will hold an annual congress on Friday December 7 and 8 at the Bank of Tanzania Conference hall to discuss industrialisation.

A statement released on Thursday December 6 by the president of EST Prof Benno Ndulu, who is the former governor of the Bank of Tanzania, says the discussion will base on the them ‘Industrialization for Inclusive Development in Tanzania.’

Prof Samuel Wangwe, a prominent industrial economist, will kick start the discussion by presenting historical trends, the statement reads in part.

“Prof Finn Tarp from UNU-WIDER, Helsinki will share global trends, and experience from Vietnam will be shared by Dr Le Lang Doanh, Member of UN Committee for Development Policy,” the statement adds.

The Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Philip Mpango is expected to grace the occasion.

“The discussion about industrialization aim to inform members where we come from in terms of industrialization, challenges we faced, were we are currently and the track to take in order to be reach the destination,” says the statement. The discussion will recommend best pathway to take in order to have inclusive industrial development.

The Economics Society of Tanzania was established in 1996 but was inactive since 1998. It was revived early this year under the tutelage of Prof Ndulu as the president and Dr Blandina Kilama as chief executive officer.
