Tanga. Five members of a single family who lost their lives in a road accident in Coast Region on September 13 were laid to rest in Tanga on Wednesday, September 17.
Francis Kaggi, along with his three biological children and a foster child, lost their lives on the spot. His wife and a domestic worker survived the accident
The funeral service was conducted at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) in Mikanjuni, drawing hundreds of mourners, including employees of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco), where the deceased had worked, as well as residents from across the city.
Church pastor Jeremia Mboko urged the grieving relatives to seek comfort in faith during what he described as an unbearable loss.
He also commended the family of the late Francis Kaggi for acknowledging the efforts of a young man who was the first to arrive at the accident scene and helped secure property while ensuring the bodies of the deceased were treated with dignity.
“In today’s world, many shy away from helping in such situations, yet this young man showed rare compassion. He safeguarded belongings and cared for the remains without succumbing to greed. This deserves praise,” Pastor Mboko said.
The Kaggi family honoured the Good Samaritan, identified as Miraji Juma, for his actions. Speaking at the family home in Magaoni Tanga, Mr Joseph Chamshama, the brother of the late Francis, said Miraji’s selfless service had made him part of the family.
“He stood firm at the scene, protecting property and watching over our relatives until others arrived. Because of his deeds, we have decided to recognise him as one of our own,” Chamshama said.
The burial was marked by solemnity as relatives, friends and colleagues accompanied the bodies to their final resting place.
Special transport was organised to enable mourners to travel together from the church to the cemetery.
