Dar es Salaam. The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has ordered Bishop Joseph Gwajima of the Glory of Christ Tanzania Church, to submit exhibits to prove he could not attend a court session because he was sick.
Resident Magistrate Cyprian Mkeha gave the order yesterday after the accused failed to show up in court yesterday, with his lawyer Peter Kibatala telling the court his client was sick.
Earlier, prosecution led by state attorney Lilian Itemba informed the court the state was ready to proceed with the case by hearing testimony from the prosecution witness.
However, Kibatala informed the court that his client was sick and prayed that the court adjourn the hearing of the case until another day.
Magistrate Mkeha adjourned the case to November 4, this year.
In the case, Bishop Gwajima is charged with abusing the Catholic Archbishop of Dar es Salaam, Polycarp Cardinal Pengo.
It was alleged that, on an unidentified date between March 16 and 25, this year, at Tanganyika Packers grounds located at Kawe area, the accused uttered abusive and insulting words to Cardinal Pengo, showing that the said archbishop was a child, stupid and of inferior intellect.
The prosecution further alleged that the accused recorded the words in a video which was circulated through social media networks.
