Iringa. The Iringa Municipal Council is set to implement the TACTICS project, a competitive urban transformation initiative funded by the World Bank at a cost of Sh20.2 billion.

The official handover of the project site, marking the start of implementation, was officiated on Thursday, July 17, 2025, by Iringa Urban MP, Ms Jesca Msambatavangu.

Scheduled for completion within 15 months, the project will be executed by local contractor Dimetoclasa Real Hope Ltd.

Key components include the construction of the Kihesa Market, a 5.2-kilometre road from Mkimbizi to Mtwivila, and an office building for the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura) and the Municipal Council engineers.

The initiative aims to enhance access to social services, improve the business environment, and upgrade transport infrastructure for residents.

Speaking during the event, Ms Msambatavangu commended the government for allocating the funds, clarifying that the money had been provided by the central government and not through the council’s internal revenue.

She urged residents to protect the project and emphasised the importance of prioritising local employment during the implementation phase.

“This is a major step forward for Iringa Urban. The government has tirelessly worked to secure funding for numerous development projects,” she said.

The Tarura manager for Iringa District, Mr Barnaba Jabiry, expressed gratitude for the MP’s continued oversight and urged the contractor to ensure quality delivery and adherence to timelines.

He said the new road would significantly improve access to essential services for the surrounding communities.

Retired councillors from the Kihesa, Mkimbizi, and Mtwivila wards praised the MP’s support for local development, particularly in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

They described the TACTICS project as a transformative milestone for community growth and prosperity.

Mr Mbulinyingi Nkumulwa of Dimetoclasa Real Hope Ltd assured stakeholders of timely and quality implementation.

He called for close collaboration between the contractor, local leaders, and residents to ensure the project's success.
