Iringa. The University of Dar es Salaam Academic Staff Assembly (Udasa) at Mkwawa College of Education (MUCE) said yesterday its members will not start a new academic year (2015/16) unless the government effects the proposed new service structure for public universities staff.

The new service structure seeks to harmonise remuneration of staff to all public universities among other issues. according to Udasa chairman at MUCE Samson Mgaiwa.

In an interview with The Citizen, Mr Mgaiwa said that the new structure could have been put into effect three months ago had it not been the failure by relevant authorities to implement  it.

“The current service structure  varies from one university to another despite the fact that all are public institutions. We, therefore, want the new one to be adopted,” the Udasa chairman said.

Mr Mgaiwa said the new changes were proposed by academicians who met President Jakaya Kikwete on August 21, 2013.

He said President Kikwete ordered the Permanent Secretary in his office in-charge of Public Service Management to work on eight concerns they had forwarded to him.
