New healthcare centre, police station among TPDC social initiatives in Mtwara

  • Recently, members of the TPDC Board of Directors visited several development projects in the Mtwara Region, initiated through the CSR program.

Mtwara. The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) continues to partner with the government to enhance social services in regions affected by natural gas exploration, production, transportation, and distribution.

Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, TPDC is strengthening various social services, including healthcare, education, water, and good governance.

Development projects in Mtwara region

Recently, members of the TPDC Board of Directors visited several development projects in the Mtwara Region, initiated through the CSR program.

Project Manager, Engineer Omari Kitiki, provided insights into these projects and revealed that TPDC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to execute projects worth Sh1.2 billion in the districts of Msimbati and Madimba.

The agreements involve the Mtwara District Council for constructing a healthcare center in Kataya Msimbati, the Tanzania Police Force for building a police station in Kataya Msimbati, and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) for installing street lights in the villages of Msimbati, Mngojina, and Madimba.

The costs of these projects vary depending on their type: the healthcare center construction costs Sh600 million and is 80 percent complete; the police station construction costs Sh186 million and is 65 percent complete; and the street light installation costs Sh498 million and is 15 percent complete.

Collaboration with communities

TPDC's Community Development Officer, Mr Ally Mluge, elaborated on how TPDC collaborates with communities to implement development projects that promote social well-being and foster good relations with communities along the natural gas infrastructure.

"The implementation of these projects is part of TPDC's efforts to develop and improve services and relationships with communities affected by natural gas infrastructure," emphasized Mluge.

Appreciation for TPDC

Mr Rashidi Omary Linkoni, councilor of Msimbati ward, expressed gratitude to TPDC's leadership for their continued efforts to enhance social services in areas impacted by natural gas infrastructure.

"TPDC, through its community support efforts, is accelerating the resolution of challenges in accessing these services in our areas. For this step, I commend TPDC and urge them to continue these efforts," said Mr Linkoni.
