In a statement released on August 13, NHIF reassured members that they can still access medical services at Aga Khan facilities as before, or visit other registered healthcare centers across the country.
Dodoma. The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has confirmed that medical services at Aga Khan Hospitals will continue as usual until further notice.
This decision follows ongoing discussions between the government, through the Ministry of Health, and Aga Khan Hospital about the future of healthcare services for NHIF members.
In a statement released on August 13, NHIF reassured members that they can still access medical services at Aga Khan facilities as before, or visit other registered healthcare centers across the country.
For any issues or concerns, NHIF members are advised to contact the Fund’s offices nationwide or the Customer Service Center, which operates 24/7.
The announcement seeks to ensure that NHIF members continue to receive uninterrupted medical care during the ongoing negotiations with Aga Khan Hospitals.
Last week, NHIF had announced that the Aga Khan Foundation planned to end its contract with the Fund at 11 of its 24 centers starting Wednesday, August 14, due to operational issues.
The centers affected included Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam and several other facilities owned by the foundation across the country, such as Mbezi Beach, Masaki, Kigamboni, Kimara, Sinza, Geita, Mbeya, Arusha, Zanzibar, and Kahama.
However, services were to continue at other centers including Tabata, Yombo, Kibaha, Morogoro, Iringa, Mwanza, and Bukoba.
The issues that led to this decision included concerns over NHIF’s low payments, particularly for surgical patients.
