Dar es Salaam. “The Business Registration and Licensing Agency (Brela) should intensify awareness and capacity building for business owners in Tanzania to improve adherence to laws and regulations for doing business, increasing compliance,” said Chief Sheikh of Tanzania Muslim Council (Bakwata) Abubakar Zuberi.

The Muslim leader made this statement during an Iftar organised by Brela on April 3, 2024, which was attended by stakeholders and members of the business community.

He emphasised that some people have opened companies without understanding how to manage them, urging Brela to continue opening doors for more people to understand the institution and its activities to help them conduct business in accordance with the law.

"The institution should provide education on Brela-related issues because many people mention the agency but do not know what it does. Therefore, it is important to educate them so they understand the services provided, how to access them, and their importance," he said.

Explaining why this is important, Sheikh Zubeir clarified that operating with ignorance has led many businessmen and women to complicated challenges.

He commended Brela’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Godfrey Nyaisa, for organising the Iftar for the first time and thanked him for inviting him and other stakeholders to be the first participants in the event, urging him to make it a continuous exercise. "I commend him for organising it, and I am confident that you will continue to do even better," Sheikh Zubeir said.

Earlier, welcoming the Mufti to the event, Mr Nyaisa had thanked the Mufti for agreeing to participate in Brela's first Iftar event and promised to improve further while remembering those in need.

According to him, Brela organised this Iftar for the first time with the aim of being close to stakeholders, and the agency also plans to give back to the community by assisting those in need.
