Tanzania: Wife of first ELCT bishop to be buried today

  • The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) worshippers yesterday, March 24, paid their last respects to the body of the wife of the church’s first Bishop, Dr Stephano Moshi, during a service held Azania Front in Dar es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) faithful on Sunday, March 24, 2019, paid their last respects to the wife of their first Bishop, Dr Stephano Moshi, during a service held at Azania Front in Dar es Salaam.

After the service, Ndeambiliasia Moshi’s was transported to Marangu in Kilimanjaro Region where she will be laid to rest on Monday, March 25.

Delivering his sermon during the service, ELCT bishop for the Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Dr Alex Malasusa urged relatives and family members to celebrate her life instead of mourning.

“The deceased loved every person and when you pay them a visit she would not allow you to leave with empty hands. Therefore, we should celebrate her life,” he said.

“We celebrated her mark her 100th birthday three months ago, so we must thank God keeping her with us for such a long time,”

The deceased’s grandson, Mr Zebedayo Moshi, said her grandmother died on March 20, 2019, in Dar es Salaam and that she will be buried in her home village of Marangu.

He said she was born on December 15, 1918, meaning she died at 100 years and three months.

She died over 40 years after her husband who died in 1976 when still the ELCT country leader.

She was the second wife to Dr Moshi following the death of his first wife. She was blessed with three children; Maria, Dora and Zebadia.

According to the family, the deceased had a task of parenting five children left by Dr Moshi’s first wife. They are John, Hosea, Joshua, Iriaeli and Aimtonga.

She has left behind 39 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren with the family saying, the deceased has at least 150 members in his family.
