Kibaha. Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) and WWF Tanzania have taken a significant step towards addressing water scarcity in Kibaha District by officially handing over solar-powered water infrastructure. The new system, which includes a borehole, cattle trough, and domestic water point, aims to secure sustainable water access for local communities and promote long-term ecosystem protection. The handover ceremony, held in Minazimikinda Village, was officiated by Kibaha District Commissioner, Nickson Simon.

During the ceremony, Nickson Simon praised the collaboration between TBL and WWF Tanzania, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in tackling water challenges in fast-growing regions like Pwani and Dar es Salaam. "Water is a critical resource for the growth of our communities and economy. This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration in addressing water scarcity. The efforts of TBL and WWF Tanzania to improve water security are commendable and crucial for ensuring sustainable access to clean water," said Nickson.

The newly installed solar-powered water system will provide clean and reliable water to surrounding communities, supporting both households and livestock. By utilizing environmentally friendly technology, the infrastructure addresses immediate water scarcity concerns and ensures sustainable usage over time. This project is a critical part of TBL’s broader sustainability strategy aimed at making a positive impact on local communities while conserving Tanzania's natural resources.

Speaking at the event, TBL’s Managing Director highlighted the significance of the project, stating, "At TBL, sustainability is at the core of our operations. This solar-powered water system represents a crucial step toward ensuring that both people and the environment benefit. Our partnership with WWF Tanzania is focused on securing water access for this community while protecting vital ecosystems that are essential for the future."

As part of the event, TBL and WWF also launched a pilot project under the Bankable Nature Solutions (BNbS) model, aimed at promoting long-term water security and ecosystem protection. The BNbS approach leverages sustainable use of natural resources to create financially viable projects that benefit both the environment and the community. Through this initiative, TBL and WWF Tanzania aim to create a replicable model that addresses water scarcity while boosting environmental conservation across the country.

WWF Tanzania’s Country Director, Dr. Amani Ngusaru, underscored the importance of protecting water sources, stating, "Protecting essential water sources is key to sustaining both human life and ecological balance. Our partnership with TBL demonstrates how businesses and conservation organizations can collaborate to achieve lasting impacts. With the BNbS model here in Kibaha, we are setting the stage for long-term solutions that ensure communities have access to water while protecting our natural resources."
