Dar es Salaam. Industrial investors in Temeke District have been urged to strictly observe environmental regulations and to implement recommendations outlined in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), as part of wider efforts to promote sustainable industrial development.
The call was made during a capacity-building workshop organised by the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), Temeke Zone.
The event brought together factory owners, environmental officers, and industry stakeholders to discuss legal compliance and environmental management best practices.
Temeke Zonal Manager for NEMC, Mr Abeli Sembeka, stressed the importance of fulfilling the conditions attached to EIA certificates once the assessment process has concluded.

“We’ve observed that some investors fail to implement the necessary measures even after being issued an environmental certificate,” he said. “This undermines the objective of sustainable development and environmental protection.”
Compliance Manager for NEMC, Mr Hamadi Taimuru, urged participants to become advocates of environmental compliance within their respective industries.
“We expect these stakeholders to pass on the knowledge acquired here and advocate for legal compliance across the sector,” he said.
Investor Representative from Zenufa Laboratories Limited, Ms Fatma Shabani, thanked NEMC for organising the training session, describing it as both informative and timely. She urged the Council to continue conducting such educational programmes to help more investors understand their environmental responsibilities.
Also in attendance were environmental officers from Temeke Municipal Council and representatives from the Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), further emphasising the importance of a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to environmental governance and sustainable industrial progress.
