Simba to travel with food materials, chef ahead of Al Ahly return leg

Dar es Salaam. Football giants Simba SC are leaving the country tomorrow, April 2, for Cairo, Egypt, ahead of their quarterfinal return leg of the CAF Champions League against Al Ahly this Friday.

Unlike Al Ahly, who decided to come with only food materials, Simba are doing more than that as they will travel with food materials, drinks and even their own chef.

Apart from Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, who played against Young Africans (Yanga), also arrived with a substantial amount of luggage containing drinks, food, and empty drums, probably intended for water storage.

Although these items are readily available in the country, Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns opted to bring their own supplies. The reason behind that remains unclear.

However, unconfirmed reports suggested that the teams decided to do that in order to avoid being sabotaged, prompting them to ensure they had all necessities for the duration of their stay in the country.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Simba Information Officer Ahmed Ally said that they have decided to travel with all food materials because of various reasons that he failed to specify.

However, Ally said it is normal for clubs competing in international competitions to travel with their own food materials, drinks, and chefs, who will be supervising cooking services while they are at a hotel.

“You may have seen what Al Ahly did when they travelled to Tanzania; they came with all food materials and soft drinks. So, we are doing similarly, but this is more that as we are going to include our own chef.

“The main role of the chef is to supervise players' dishes. We have special food that the players are required to eat while in the residential camp; we do not want them to change that type of food,” insisted Ally.
