Dar es Salaam. The battle for the Golden Boot Award is getting hotter in Tanzania Mainland Premier League as a result of Hamis Kiiza’s strike in the match against Mtibwa Sugar last weekend.
Kiiza is tied with Stand United’s Elias Maguri with nine goals. Defending champions, Young Africans’ striker Amissi Tambwe is at the top with 10 goals.
The Ugandan striker led the scoring chart since the start of the league, but in mid of the first round, the top seat was under Stand United Maguri, who lost his impressive record to Burundian international player, Tambwe.
Tambwe was in a position to widen the gap last Sunday, but his penalty hit cross bar in the 1-0 thriller. Piling pressure on Kiiza and Maguri is Yanga’s Donald Ngomba, who has eight goals, while Azam Football club Cote d’Ivore striker Kipre Tchetche is the fifth with seven goals.
John Bocco of Azam FC, Ibrahim Ajibu (Simba SC) and Tanzania Prisons’ Jeremiah Juma are ranked sixth with six goals each, while overlapping fullback Shomari Kapombe of Azam FC is in seventh with five goals. Kapombe is the league defenders top scorer. Others with five goals each in the ongoing league are Saidi Bahanuzi of Mtibwa Sugar and JKT Ruvu’s Samuel Kamuntu.
