Fina endorses new leaders of Tanzania Swimming Association

Dar es Salaam. The world swimming governing body (Fina) has finally endorsed new leaders of the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA). The new leaders were chosen on August 26.
For not less than three months, all swimming activities in the country were under heavy crowd due to misunderstandings among members of TSA before the National Sports Council (NSC) was given the mandate of supervising the game following the expiry of the interim committee selected by the members who met in an emergency meeting.
After the interim committee’s completion of its task, especially to amend the constitution, NSC announced the body’s general election which elected the new leaders. The current TSA chairman is Imani Alimanya Dominik who is deputized by Asmah Hilal and Inviolata Itatiro is the secretary general.
The election also voted for Anna Shanalingigwa to become the body’s treasurer while Amina Mfaume won the post of Technical Director while Donald Kweka was elected in the post of Education and Development director.
According to a letter signed by Fina President, Dr Julio Maglione, the swimming top leader in the world congratulated the new executive committee for winning the posts.
“I have just been informed concerning the recent elections of your Association. On behalf of FINA, I would like to congratulate you on being elected as the President of the Tanzania Swimming Association. Kindly pass on my congratulations to the other members of the Executive Board,” said Maglione.
Maglione also gave the best wishes for the success of the future sport projects of the Tanzania Swimming Association and Fina was ready to give them the maximum support. The new TSA leaders will stay in the positions for four years.
Meanwhile: TSA has said it will announce the final squad of the swimmers for the Cana Zone Three Championships next week.
Currently, the team coaches, Alex Mwaipasi and Michael Livingstone are verifying the names of the swimmers who competed in the time trials. “So no swimmer who has been announced for the national team, we will name our final squad for the Cana Zone Three Championship a week or so before the event roars into life,” the TSA official said.
In 2016, the Cana championship took place in Kigali, Rwanda, where the national team won the title. Tanzania also defended the title well during the last year’s edition held in the country.
