Karia retains TFF presidency, appoints Nyamlani as First Vice President

Wallace Karia

What you need to know:

  • Karia acknowledged that the road to victory was not an easy one, but described the outcome as a moment of strength and resilience for Tanzanian football.

Dar es Salaam. Wallace Karia has officially retained his position as President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) after securing a landslide victory in the federation’s general elections held in Tanga.

Karia, who has been at the helm of TFF since 2017, expressed his gratitude to the delegates of the General Assembly for renewing their trust in his leadership.

Speaking immediately after the results were announced, he acknowledged that the road to victory was not an easy one, but described the outcome as a moment of strength and resilience for Tanzanian football.

“It was not a simple journey. This election process has been like putting metal through fire to make it stronger. The challenges we faced are a reminder that we have work ahead of us, and we must deal with them,” said Karia.

He went on to emphasize that the re-election should not be seen as a personal victory but rather as a mandate to continue pushing for reforms and improvements in the management of football across the country.

“I thank you all for your confidence in me and my colleagues. What matters now is that each of us must get down to work. We shall continue to ensure the proper governance and development of our football,” he added.

Nyamlani reappointed as TFF First Vice President

One of Karia’s first decisions after re-election was to confirm Athuman Nyamlani as the First Vice President of the federation. In line with the TFF Constitution, the First Vice President is appointed directly by the President.

Athuman Nyamlani

Announcing the appointment, TFF Electoral Committee Chairman, Kiomoni Kibamba, said: “I have received the President’s appointment for the position of First Vice President in accordance with Article 35 of the Constitution, and that appointment goes to Mr. Athuman Nyamlani.”

Nyamlani has served in the same role in previous terms and is expected to continue working closely with Karia to ensure stability within the federation’s leadership.

Strengthening the Executive Committee

Alongside Nyamlani’s reappointment, Karia also named four members of the TFF Executive Committee as mandated by the Constitution. Those appointed are Athuman Nyamlani, Evance Mgeusa, Debora Mkemwa, and Azzan Salim.

In addition, six delegates were successfully elected through a competitive voting process to join the Executive Committee. They are Issa Bukuku, Salum Kulunge, Mohamed Aden, James Mhagama, Khalid Mohamed, and Hosseah Lugano.

The appointments and elections mark a significant step in shaping the leadership that will steer Tanzanian football for the next term.

Call for unity and progress

Karia closed his acceptance speech by calling for unity among stakeholders, noting that only through collective effort could the federation achieve its long-term goals. He emphasized that the focus must now shift from elections to development initiatives that will benefit players, coaches, clubs, and fans across Tanzania.

“With this new team in place, our responsibility is clear,” Karia said. “We must work together with commitment and dedication to take our football to greater heights. The trust you have given us is not for celebration but for action.”

As TFF embarks on a new chapter under Karia’s continued leadership, expectations remain high for progress in strengthening governance, youth development, and international competitiveness.
