Mpanzu set to rejoin Simba camp in Egypt after delay

What you need to know:

  • Mpanzu was noticeably absent when the first group of Simba players departed for their Egyptian camp on July 30, leading to reports suggesting possible disagreements over contractual terms.

Dar es Salaam. After weeks of speculation and fan concern, Simba SC’s creative midfielder Elie Mpanzu is finally expected to report to the club’s preseason camp in Ismailia, Egypt, ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

The Congolese star is anticipated to link up with the rest of the squad within the next few days, bringing to an end a period of uncertainty over his status.

Mpanzu was noticeably absent when the first group of Simba players departed for their Egyptian camp on July 30, leading to reports suggesting possible disagreements over contractual terms. However, a reliable source within the club has dismissed those claims, confirming that the player was dealing with personal matters which have now been resolved.

“Mpanzu was not excluded from the squad or having contract issues. He had personal obligations that required his attention, but everything has now been sorted. He will be in camp shortly to resume preparations with the rest of the team,” the source confirmed.

The midfielder, who joined Simba during the mid-season transfer window last season, played a vital role in the club’s domestic and continental campaigns.

Known for his energy, vision, and attacking drive, Mpanzu scored four goals and provided six assists in the Tanzania Premier League. He also impressed in continental competitions, helping Simba reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Simba’s preseason is now in full swing in Ismailia, with the technical bench working to integrate new signings and evaluate trial lists.

Among the players already in camp are newly signed talents Mohamed Bajaber from Kenya, Alassane Kante of Senegal, Ghanaian forward Jonathan Sowah, South African defender Rushine de Reuck, and local stars Morice Abraham and Charles Semfuko.

According to the source, the team currently has around 36 players in camp. “The number might seem large, but that’s because we have several players who are undergoing assessment. If they meet the expectations of the technical team, they could be offered contracts,” the source noted.

Regarding match preparations, Simba has adopted a phased approach. The club is expected to begin playing low-intensity friendly matches within the next two weeks as part of the preseason program laid out by head coach Fadlu Davids and his backroom staff.

With Mpanzu’s return imminent and preparations intensifying, Simba fans have plenty to look forward to. The club is clearly aiming to build a formidable squad for the upcoming season, as they target glory in both the domestic league and CAF competitions.
