Msuva, who played a key role for Yanga’s title winning season, bagged two awards at the colourful event
Dar es Salaam. Young Africans forward took home a total of Sh11.4m following his big win at the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) awards ceremony.
Msuva, who played a key role for the Mainland giants’ impressive show in the 2014/15 Mainland Premier League season, bagged two awards at the colourful event.
He received Sh5.7m after winning the top scorer award and Sh5.7m after being voted the best player of the season. His parents Happygod Msuva (father) and Susan Msuva (mother) took the awards on behalf of the gifted striker who is now in Egypt with the national soccer team, Taifa Stars.
Taifa Stars take on Egypt’s Pharaohs in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying match in Alexandria today.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Msuva’s father said that he was very happy to see his son hit the limelight. “We are very happy that our son has been named the best player and top scorer in Tanzania. This means a lot to him,” he said.
Simon beat former Yanga striker Mrisho Ngassa and Simba’s defender Mohamed Hussein to the award.
Ngassa, who featured for Yanga this season, is now plying his trade in South Africa with Free State Stars.
Former Coastal Union goalkeeper Shaaban Kado was voted the best goalkeeper.
He beat Said Mohamed of Mtibwa Sugar and Tanzania Prisons’ Mohamed Yusuph to the prize. He was awarded Sh5m. Kado has signed for newly promoted Mwadui of Shinyanga. Former Tanzania Prisons head coach Mbwana Makata was named the best coach, beating Yanga’s Hans van Pluijm and Goran Kopunovic of Simba. Makata, who did a commendable job to rescue the Mbeya-based outfit from relegation, was awarded Sh8.6m. He now coaches Kagera Sugar. The gala also witnessed referee Israel Mujuni scoop the best referee award to receive Sh8.6 million.
Mujuni beat two other nominees- Jonesia Rukyaa and Samwel Mpenzu- to the prize while Mtibwa Sugar was named the most disciplined team. The Morogoro-based outfit pocketed Sh17 million.
Yanga received Sh80.4m for winning the league while Sh40.2 went to runners-up Azam FC.
Simba were awarded 28.7m after finishing third in the league while fourth-placed Mbeya City
