Dar es Salaam. Tanzania women’s national team captain, Opah Clement, has officially joined SD Eibar, a club competing in Spain’s top-flight women’s league, Liga F.

The signing is historic, as Opah becomes the first Tanzanian player to feature in a European top-tier women’s league, agreeing to a one-year contract with the Spanish side.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Opah expressed her excitement about the move. “I am very happy to join one of the prominent teams in a competitive league.

I know it will be challenging, but I have experience from playing in different leagues abroad, which I hope will help me adapt quickly,” she said.

SD Eibar finished eighth last season, accumulating 38 points from 30 matches in a league of 16 teams. The club aims to improve its attacking output, and officials see Opah as a key addition to revitalize their forward line and create more goal-scoring opportunities.

Opah comes to Eibar after a stint at FC Juárez in Mexico, where she featured in six matches. Prior to her time in Mexico, she played for Kayseri Spor and Beşiktaş in Turkey, as well as Henan Jianye in China, among other clubs.

Her international club experience highlights her adaptability, resilience, and ability to perform across diverse football environments.

Founded in 1991 as Eibartarrak FT, the club later rebranded as SD Eibar and has steadily established itself as a mainstay in Spain’s top women’s league.

Club officials have praised Opah’s signing as a strategic move to strengthen the squad, particularly in attack, where they hope her international experience and skillset will make an immediate impact.
