Dar es Salaam. The second round of Tanzania Mainland Premier League rolls on this evening with six matches at various venues.
The reigning champions, Young Africans, play against Njombe Mji at the Sabasaba Stadium, while Mtibwa Sugar will play Mwadui FC at the Manungu Complex and Lipuli will play Stand United at the Samora Stadium and Singida United will host Mbao FC at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
On the other hand, Kagera Sugar will face Ruvu Shooting at the Kaitaba Stadium and Mbeya City will play Ndanda FC at the Sokoine Stadium.
After a 1-1 draw against Lipuli FC at the Uhuru Stadium, Young Africans will today target against injured Njombe Mji.
The match will be the toughest one as each team needs victory to improve their chances. Njombe Mji head coach Hassan Banyai said they targeted the best results at their home ground and were not ready to disappoint fans for the second time.
“We played well against Tanzania Prisons despite defeat. We created many scoring chances, but we could not score. We have practised very hard to ensure we win the game,” said Banyai.
He explained that his players were capable of turning around the season at the home ground. “We will play Young Africans cautiously, but with determination to get the three points,” said Banyai.
Young Africans head coach George Lwandamina is also optimistic about his players and says they will register the victory in the encounter.
The team squad has been boosted after the return of Zambian striker Obrey Chirwa and winger Geofrey Mwashiuya. The duo sustain some injuries and failed to play in an opening match. However, Young Africans will be without their strikers Amissi Tambwe and goalkeeper Beno Kakolanya, whose hopes of playing were dashed due to injuries.
“We are happy with the return of our players, who were sustained some injuries. We took the match seriously and are sure we will take all the three points. However, we do not underrate our opponents,” said Lwandamina.
