Zanzibar picks 20 players for Challenge Cup

Dar es Salaam. The Zanzibar national soccer team, Zanzibar Heroes assistant head coach Malale Hamsini Keya, has named the final 20-man squad ahead of the Senior East and Central Africa Challenge Cup scheduled to take place in Ethiopia from November 21.
In the squad, Hamsin has included national soccer team, Taifa Stars captain, Nadir “Cannavaro” Haroub who will also be the captain of Zanzibar Heroes.
Other Taifa Stars players included in Zanzibar Heroes are defender Haji Mwinyi Mngwali and midfielder Mudathir Yahya. The team will leave for Addis Ababa on November 19th.
Other players in the squad are: goalkeepers Mwadini Ali Mwadini ( Azam), Mohamed Abrahman (JKU); defenders are Nasoro “Chollo” Masoud (Stand United), Mwinyi,( Young Africans), Adeyum Saleh (Coastal Union), Haroub (Young Africans), Agrey Moris ( Azam) Said Mussa ( Mafunzo) and Issa Haidar of JKU.
Midfielders are Awadh Juma ( Simba) Mudathir ( Azam) Said Juma Makapu ( Young Africans), Abdulrahman Mbambi ( Mafunzo), Khamis Mcha (Azam), Suleiman Kassim ( Stand United) Omar Juma ( Hard rock) and Mbarouk Chande of JKU. Strikers are Ibrahim Hilika (Zimamoto), Matheo Anthony ( Young Africans) and Ame Ali Zungu (Azam FC).
Zanzibar Heroes are in group B and will play their first match against Burundi on the opening day of the championship. Also in group B are rivals Kenya and Uganda.
Tanzania mainland, Kilimanjaro Stars are in group A with the hosts, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Somalia. In group C, a Sudan derby will be the highlight of the championship as South Sudan and Sudan are pitted together where they’re joined by Malawi, a guest team, who have been invited to replace Zambia, and Djibouti.
Last year, the tournament was not held after the expected host, Ethiopia, pulled out at the last minute citing logistical problems among other factors.
