Samia inaugurates NMB branch in Unguja as bank extends wings

Zanzibar. NMB Bank Plc now has a new branch at Paje area, South Unguja in Zanzibar as it extends its wings to cover new clients across Tanzania.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan inaugurated the NMB Paje Branch which becomes the lender’s 230th outlet, serving over 6 million customers across the country.

The event – which was participated by Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, Bank of Tanzania (BoT) governor, Emmanuel Tutuba and the Minister of Finance, Mwigulu Nchemba among others - was part of the Kizimkazi Festival 2023.

Also in attendance were the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Tulia Ackson, the Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, the Chief Secretary, Ambassador Moses Kusiluka, the Former Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda, and various ministers from the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar (SMZ).

The new branch launch comes within two months after the Vice President Philip Mpango inaugurated NMB the 229th Branch in Buhigwe, Kigoma Region.

Speaking during the event, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Ruth Zaipuna said the branch would address the challenge faced by Paje residents, who previously had to travel 60 kilometers to access banking services at the most close branch of NMB Mwanakwerekwe.

"We believe that this branch will greatly assist the residents of this area, who previously had to travel approximately 60 kilometers to Mwanakwerekwe branch to access our banking services.

She said the branch will provide all financial services, including account opening, payments, deposits and withdrawals, insurance services, loans, and foreign currency exchange. It will also provide financial education to fishermen, seaweed farmers and salt producers.

Inside the branch, President Samia was given a tour of the various departments and offices. She then left the branch and proceeded to the nearby Paje Grounds, located just 50 meters away, where she addressed the crowd during the Samia Night ceremony, part of the Kizimkazi Festival.

NMB Paje becomes the bank's third branch to be opened this year in 2023, following the Kwa Mrombo branch in Arusha on May 3rd and the Buhigwe branch in Kigoma on July 4th.
