Dar es Salaam. A tea maker, Chai Bora, has diversified its operations into other products as it seeks to expand its market to other countries within East and Central Africa.

The diversification is a result of Chai Bora’s acquisition of a well-known tomato sauce brand, Dabaga.

With the acquisition, Chai Bora will also be producing Pili Pili Mbuzi sauce and Mango Pickle among other products.

Chai Bora managing director Kapila Ariyatilakaka said in a statement yesterday that the decision to acquire the company stems from a need to expand scope of business from just selling their products locally to exporting them to East and Central Africa.

Chai Bora has been operating in the country since 1996, established as Tea brand producer with products such as Black Tea, Green Tea and Coffee brand known as Café Bora.

“Through the acquisition we have invested in a state of the art technology that will increase efficiency in the production of relevant products and will simultaneously contribute to employment in the

country,” he said.

The acquisition, he noted, will enable farmers who produce horticultural products like tomatoes to have access to markets, saying the factory currently needs between 300 tonnes to 400 tonnes of the product monthly.
