Dodoma. Parliamentary Public Account Committee (PAC) has ordered the State Mining Corporation (Stamico) to investigate the whereabouts of $746,336.34 (about Sh1.6 billion), which was paid by Acacia as environmental rehabilitation fund when handing over Tulawaka gold mine to State Mining Corporation (Stamico).

The order, which was issued on August 28 by Mr Japhet Asunga (Vwawa-CCM) who was chairing the PAC meeting, follows the claims by Acacia that they had paid all the money they were owing the fund.

Acacia claims that they had paid $5.8 million (Sh13.5 billion) as opposed to the 2015/16 Controller and Auditor General (CAG)’s report which shows a deficit of Sh1.6 billion, according to Mr Asunga.

“I order Stamico to immediately investigate on the matter and Acacia should submit all documents to prove that they had paid the entire amount,” he ordered.

The amount, he said, is said to have been paid by Acacia through its Pangea Mining arm, formerly known as Tulawaka.

PAC also directed Stamico to make sure that it collects all debts it owed various mining firms.

It also directed the company to ensure it had at hand title deeds of all buildings it owned.

“You also need to review your contracts with different players in regards to new Mining Acts which were passed by parliament this year.”
