Tanzania family holds prayers for woman killed by her husband and body burnt to ashes

Dar es Salaam. Hundreds of mourners turned up in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, August 04, 2019 at a mass that was organized in honour of Ms Naomi Marijani who was reportedly killed and burned into ashes over two months ago.

Naomi’s husband, Mr Khamis Luwoga alias Meshack, was last week charged before Magistrate Ally Salum at the Kisutu Residents’ Magistrate Court, accused of murdering and Naomi.

Reading the charge sheet, state attorney Wankyo Simon said the accused committed the crime on May 15, 2019 at Gezaulole, Kigamboni.

The accused was not required to enter plea because the Kisutu Residents’ Magistrate Court does not have the legal jurisdiction to handle murder cases.

It is alleged that Mr Luwoga carried out the murder, burned the body into ashes and buried the remains at a farm.

In Dar es Salaam on Sunday, August 04, 2019, the family held prayers at Mbweni area at the home of the deceased’s brother.

The deceased’s brother, Mr Wiseman Marijani, told The Citizen that through the prayers, the family was thanking God for Naomi’s life.

They were also thanking God for guiding them through the entire investigation that resulted into the arraignment of the accused.

“It was difficult for us to manage the matter and we believe we are here today due to God’s guiding hand. Establishing the truth of what actually happened to our relative and to finally convince security organs to come in and take charge of the investigations was not an easy task. It was only possible due to God’s grace,” he said.

He said the family was still waiting for a court decision on Naomi’s remains for burial.

“We have gathered today, but once the court has completed its legal procedures and hand over her remains to us, we will gather again for actual burial,” he said.
