Dar es Salaam. Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) in collaboration with Arise has donated 100 computers worth Sh32 million to three education centers.

The computers were donated to Songoro Mnyonge Secondary School, Lauren Education Promotion Center and Center for Women’s Children on Wednesday March 27, 2024.

DTB chief executive officer, Mr Raveet Chowdhury, said that their organisation has been supporting education and health by contributing equipment for the sustainable development of the country.

“Under DTB’s sustainability agenda, we are committing to a net-zero commission of carbon by 2030,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of recycling all e-wastes resulting from the bank’s business operations.

"It is in this backdrop that all the computers in the bank are annually recycled and distributed to schools to promote computer literacy at lower educational levels. We are glad to maintain our environment clean by turning our obsolete computers into reusable gadgets that can support learning," he said.

Songoro Mnyonge Secondary School headmaster, Ms Rodina Kimaro, expressed gratitude, stating that their school does not have a single computer.

She said the equipment will help teachers to provide learning materials to students more efficiently compared to the current practice where they rely on internet cafes to prepare educational materials.

"The school with 1,300 students and 19 teachers, finds it difficult to reach all students at once. These materials will also simplify the learning process for our children," she said.

Mara Center for Widows and Children, assistant director Utti Mwanga’amba applauded DTB for donating the computers as their organisation lack such facilities.
