NMB CEO: Sharpen your skills to survive in global labour market

Dar es Salaam. Youths must sharpen their 21st Century skills is they are to remain competitive in the ever-changing global labour market, the NMB Bank Chief Executive Officer said at the weekend.

 Ms Ruth Zaipuna told participants at the graduation ceremony for Form Four students at Feza Schools that the 21st Century skills include critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, media literacy, technology literacy, flexibility, leadership, social and life skills.

“Armed with these skills, I am fully convinced that you will excel in your life pursuits, whether you want to be employed or self-employed. You will be attractive to employers and investors and with the spirit of continuing to learn, you will always be improving and increase your value proposition,” Zaipuna said.

She added, “For years, I have been part of Feza Schools and I have great appreciation for the emphasis the school places on life-long learning and development, positive engagement with the community and development of leadership skills, qualities that I believe will positively impact our children for many years to come,” she said.

Zaipuna noted that the life of an individual is a journey and urged the youths to work hard adding that they can achieve anything they set their minds to if they stay disciplined.

“I started my journey about five decades ago. Specifically 32 years ago, I graduated as a Form Four student at Kilakala Secondary School in Morogoro. This day has made me reflect on my whole life since I graduated in 1991,” she said.

She urged the grandaunts to believe in themselves, embrace their passions and never lose sight of the values and principles that were instilled in them while in school.

She noted that some of the skills that have helped her climb the ladder of success include discipline, hard work, integrity, excellency in every task whether big or small, and remaining a life-long student.

 “Despite the uncertainties and obstacles you have faced while here, you have emerged as shining examples of determination and perseverance. Throughout your years at Feza Schools, you have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. The achievements are a testament to your hard work, dedication and passion.”

She advised them to embrace the opportunities that come their way with open minds, pointing out that success is not only measured by grades or accolades, but by the impact made in the lives of others.

Earlier, the Feza Schools Deputy Director Ali Nungu urged the graduating students to shine the light wherever they go, and make a difference in their chosen path.

He commended the school’s teachers, other staff and parents who played a pivotal role in their journey and urged the graduands to believe in their capabilities.

He expressed confidence that with their good behaviour, outstanding academic ability and resilience, they will be tenacious and passionate in the pursuit of their dreams.
