Nairobi. Raila Odinga, the leader of ODM, fervently conveyed a message that resonated beyond his tenure in a pivotal gathering at the Bomas of Kenya.

With the possibility of his ascent to the chairmanship of the African Union Commission looming, Odinga underscored that ODM transcends any individual, including himself, and is fundamentally about the aspirations of Kenyans.

Emphasising the need for ODM's continuity and evolution, Odinga drew a parallel with Tanzania's Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), highlighting how the party persevered through transitions of leadership, from the era of Nyerere to the current tenure of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

"When Nyerere left CCM, the party lived on. From Nyerere to Mwinyi, Mkapa, Kikwete, my friend Magufuli and now Mama Samia Suluhu, CCM remains strong and that's what we want ODM to emulate," the ODM leader said.

He articulated his vision for ODM to follow suit, enduring and adapting to serve the people of Kenya effectively.

Addressing the National Governing Council (NGC), Odinga articulated the imperative for rejuvenation within the party, calling for a new cadre of dedicated individuals to propel ODM forward.

He stressed the importance of aligning the party with the evolving needs and aspirations of Kenyans, particularly focusing on economic empowerment and the pursuit of governance.

Crucial amendments to the party's constitution were proposed during the meeting, aimed at bolstering governance structures and electoral processes.

Notably, the establishment of a revamped National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) and the integration of the Secretary for Political Affairs into the Central Committee signify ODM's commitment to organisational efficacy and political strategy.

Odinga's call for unity and purposeful action resonated throughout the assembly, urging members to eschew divisive tactics and uphold the principles of ODM. He cautioned against the pitfalls of tribalism, gender bias, and regionalism, reaffirming ODM's identity as a national liberation movement.

Furthermore, Odinga denounced the incumbent ruling party's policies and underscored ODM's role as a formidable alternative, dedicated to safeguarding the reforms it fought for. With impending internal elections, Odinga stressed the importance of a fair and constructive contest, rooted in the party's ethos and policies rather than identity politics.

In his rallying cry, Odinga invoked a spirit of resilience and collective endeavour, urging ODM members to embrace the challenges ahead with determination and unity. He affirmed his commitment to gender equality within the party, encouraging women to assume leadership roles and vowing to uphold their rights within the organisation.

Ultimately, Odinga's address at the NGC exemplified a strategic vision for ODM's future, grounded in principles of inclusivity, progress, and unwavering dedication to the people of Kenya.
