Dar es Salaam. Congolese rumba and dance star Nyoshi El Saadat has credited music promoter Asha Baraka and her company, MK Group, for introducing him to Tanzania’s music scene.

Speaking at the National Museum Hall in Dar es Salaam in the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, during celebrations to mark Asha Baraka’s 30 years in the industry, Nyoshi paid tribute to her pivotal role in his career.

“When I came to Tanzania, it was MK Group that brought me here through Asha Baraka and her brother, Baraka Msigwa. That’s why today I sincerely thank them, because without them I might have remained in DR Congo, just playing music there,” he said.

He added that their support allowed him to live through music, win fans across the region, and travel to many countries. “Without them, perhaps my music journey would not have grown this big,” Nyoshi noted.

Nicknamed Le Professeur (The Professor), Nyoshi rose to prominence in the 1990s and 2000s as one of the leading Congolese musicians to successfully fuse soukous with Tanzania’s dansi tradition.

He became a household name with hits such as Malkia Wangu, while his collaborations with Tanzanian bands helped him cement a strong East African following.

His remarks underscored the enduring cultural ties between Congolese musicians and Tanzanian audiences—links that Asha Baraka and MK Group were instrumental in nurturing.
