Dar es Salaam.Tanzanian Hip Hop pioneer Damon Dash, better known as 77 Dash, has unveiled 77 Dash Entertainment, a new venture that aims to reshape the country’s music industry and position local talent on the global stage.
The initiative is a natural extension of his long-standing legacy of collaboration and mentorship in the creative sector.
For 77 Dash, the company is not simply another record label, but a platform designed to create opportunities and blend culture with business to secure the future of Tanzanian artists.
“Music is both culture and business. Our vision is to give Tanzanian musicians the same opportunities available to artists in global markets,” he said at the launch event.
This latest move follows his influential work in 2014 when he brought together some of the biggest names in the industry under the collective BOB na Micharazo. The group — which featured Mr. Blue, Nyandu Tozzy, Becka Tittle, Blood Gaza, Baby MC, Uswege Master, Cotton, and Ivason — produced enduring hits such as Shut Up Kimya, Wamekaa, and Kazi Kwanza. These tracks remain popular on digital platforms, a testament to his ability to create music with lasting impact.
Through 77 Dash Entertainment, artists will be able to access structured record deals that emphasize long-term growth, while also benefiting from mentorship, training, and modern production facilities. The company also promises international distribution channels and opportunities for collaboration with established names across East Africa and beyond. In addition, musicians will receive business guidance to help them build personal brands, manage their finances, and diversify into other ventures — ensuring both creative success and career longevity.
This model reflects 77 Dash’s belief that music is not only an artistic expression but also a driver of cultural pride and economic opportunity. His influence, already felt across generations of Tanzanian artists — from Young Lunya to Meja Kunta — shows the enduring value of his vision for structure and professionalism within the industry.
By institutionalizing that vision through 77 Dash Entertainment, he says the goal is to “build futures, not just hits.”
Beyond music, 77 Dash is also expanding his footprint in mining, signaling a growing role as both a cultural leader and an industry builder. For Tanzanian music, his latest venture marks the beginning of a new chapter — one defined by growth, opportunity, and greater recognition on the global stage
