Ambush leaves one dead, 19 injured

Rukwa Regional Police Commander George Kyando confirmed the incident that occurred on Monday night between Miula and Kalundi villages, Kipande Ward, in Nkasi District.

Sumbawanga. Over 10 alleged bandits shoot dead one man when they intercepted a truck ferrying 19 traders before making away with cash and valuables.

The deceased has been identified as Chrispin Inyangwe, 40, who was driving the vehicle.

Rukwa Regional Police Commander George Kyando confirmed the incident that occurred on Monday night between Miula and Kalundi villages, Kipande Ward, in Nkasi District.

RPC Kyando said when the traders were  returning home after auctions in Ntunchi and Namanyere villages and came across boulders blocking the road and a gang of bandits armed with weapons that included firearms, matchetes and clubs emerged from the bush and attacked the entourage.

He said the gangsters ordered the traders to surrender cash and cell phones before they started attacking the traders. The RPC added that Inyangwe, who was driving the truck, registration no. T640 AWP, had refused to hand over any cash and was shot at with a submachine gun and died instantly.
