Moshi. Authorities in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region are mobilising all kinds of support to assist over 1,000 people who were affected by the recent freak floods in the area which destroyed farms and houses.
The district executive director, Mr Meleckzedeck Humbe, said recently that already 200 pieces of corrugated iron sheets and 3,500 kilogrammes of maize and beans had been received from various organisations, including the Moshi-based Bonite Bottlers.
He said, the hailstorm which hit 23 villages in the district between February 6 and 17, rendered 265 families of more than 1,000 people homeless after roofs of their dwellings were removed.
Large areas of crop fields in the lowland areas were also flooded. The official stated that an additional 7,120 kilogrammes of food are needed to feed the affected families.
