Dar es Salaam. A criminal case facing 2006 Miss Tanzania, Wema Sepetu, on Tuesday forced the postponement of ceremony to officially welcome her to the opposition party Chadema.
Miss Sepetu, who defected to Chadema early this year, was expected to be officially received and handled with Chadema membership card during a press conference slated to take place at the Coast Region Zonal Offices.
The party’s Coast Zone chairman and former Prime Minister, Frederick Sumaye, was however, forced to postpone the event after waiting for the actress for hours.
"The event aimed at handling party's membership card to Ms Sepetu and several other supporters, but unfortunately she hasn't done with her case at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court," he said.
He said they expected court procedures would be concluded before noon, but lawyers had early cases at the High Court and the Chief Government Chemist (CGC) who stood as the State witness had another assignment.
"Therefore, the event will be rescheduled and communicated to the media," he said apologising for inconveniences.
Miss Sepetu defected to Chadema early this year amid anti illicit drug crackdown.
The actress who has been charged at the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court allegedly for using marijuana.
Wema and mother, Miriam Sepetu, returned CCM membership cards during a press conference held at their Sinza home in May.
However, they were not handled with Chadema membership cards, the event expected to be held today.
