Eight regions brace for three-day downpour

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has forecasted that eight regions in the country will receive heavy rainfall for three consecutive days starting from Saturday, January 27, 2024.

 The eight regions are Mbeya, Songwe, Ruvuma, Mtwara, Iringa, Njombe, Southern Morogoro, and Lindi.

According to TMA, the heavy rain is likely to cause floods, disrupt economic activities, and negatively impact people's livelihood. As a result, TMA advises people to take precautionary measures.

Additionally, the Wami/Ruvu Basin Water Board (WRBWB) has warned residents living and carrying out their activities along the basin that there would be an increase in water levels in some areas due to the ongoing rains.

The WRBWB reports that at least 20 areas in the country have experienced an increase in water levels between January 25 and February 1, 2024.

These areas include Changalawe, Kibaoni, Magomeni, Munisagara, Masanze, Mkata, Gulwe, Tindiga in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region, and other areas in Kilimanjaro Region.
