Government plays down cashew buyers’ worries

What you need to know:

  • Almost seven days since President John Magufuli intervened in the cashew nut saga by setting the minimum price at Sh3,000, buyers say the price makes little business sense to them and instead advise the government to consider buying the products and bring smiles on farmers’ lips.
  • While more tonnes of cashew-nut failed to be sold at ongoing auction, some of potential buyers have called upon the government to purchase the product to help farmers cover their expenses, saying the recommended price is of Sh3000 per kilogram too high for them to afford.
