Dar es Salaam. A resident of Kisarawe District has won the Sh100 million grand prize in a month-long anniversary campaign organised by Yas to mark one year since its brand transformation.
Ms Veronica Kilango was officially handed the prize on February 27 in Kisarawe, bringing to a close the campaign dubbed “Tunasheherekea Pamoja – Mwaka Mmoja wa Yas” (Celebrating Together – One Year of Yas).
The initiative was launched to appreciate customer loyalty and reaffirm the company’s commitment to connecting and empowering Tanzanians through reliable, high-speed digital services.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Yas Zonal Director for Coast South, Fadhila Saidi, said the campaign had reached hundreds of customers nationwide, reflecting growing public confidence in the brand.
“Over the past month, we have witnessed tremendous enthusiasm and participation from our customers,” she said. “This campaign reflects our brand promise—to be more than a telecommunications provider, but an ally in the aspirations and progress of Tanzanians.”
During the promotion period, more than 110 winners across the country received prizes, including daily cash rewards of Sh1 million, weekly prizes of Sh5 million, fully paid trips to Dubai for 10 winners, as well as smartphones and 5G routers. The Sh100 million grand prize was the campaign’s highlight.
After receiving her cheque, Ms Kilango described the win as transformative.
“I still cannot believe that I am the Sh100 million winner. Truly, I thank God. I also thank Yas for recognising me, and I see this as both a gift and an opportunity,” she said.
She added that she plans to invest part of the money in expanding her small business and to support her orphanage centre, where she lives with orphans at home.
Ms Saidi said stories such as Ms Kilango’s demonstrate the practical impact the company seeks to deliver.
“These prizes have empowered our customers to invest, expand their businesses and pursue new opportunities. This is the kind of positive and tangible impact we aspire to create as a brand committed to supporting Tanzania’s development,” she said.
Other residents welcomed the initiative, praising the transparency of the campaign and its community focus. Kisarawe resident Said Ally Njame said witnessing the grand prize handover had encouraged him to continue using Yas services in the hope of winning in future promotions.
The company said it will continue investing in network expansion, digital innovation and financial technology solutions, while supporting national digital transformation efforts in commerce, agriculture, education and entrepreneurship.
The anniversary campaign, officials said, not only celebrated a corporate milestone but also reinforced Yas’ positioning as a trusted digital partner for individuals and communities across the country.
