Mixx by Yas achieves GSMA mobile money certification

Dar es Salaam, Mixx by Yas has officially been awarded the GSMA Mobile Money Certification, making it one of the country’s fastest-growing and most trusted mobile money platforms in a major vote of confidence for Tanzania’s digital finance sector
The announcement was made today at a press briefing held at Yas Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, where Mixx by Yas CEO, Ms. Angelica Pesha, described the certification as a “powerful validation” of the company’s commitment to delivering secure, inclusive, and innovative financial services to all Tanzanians.
“This certification is not just a stamp of approval — it’s a promise to our customers that every transaction is protected, every detail is secure, and their trust remains our most valuable asset,” said Ms. Pesha.
The GSMA Mobile Money Certification is an internationally recognized standard awarded only to platforms that meet the most rigorous global benchmarks, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), customer data protection, system integrity, and resilience. To receive the certification, a platform must score 100% across all assessment areas — a feat Mixx by Yas achieved “with distinction.”
“Achieving GSMA Mobile Money Certification is no small task,” said Mr. Mike Kamau, Managing Director, Certi-Trust (GSMA Mobile Money Certification Scheme Operator). “Mixx by Yas not only met the strict standards required — they surpassed expectations in several key areas, particularly in customer protection and system integrity. This certification confirms that Mixx is operating at the highest international level and is well-positioned to scale responsibly.”
What makes the achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which it was accomplished. Less than a year ago, Yas officially transitioned from Tigo and Tigo Pesa to Yas and Mixx by Yas, marking the start of a bold new chapter in Tanzania’s digital financial journey.
“This was more than a rebrand,” Ms. Pesha emphasized. “It was a strategic move to build a smarter, faster, and more trusted digital financial ecosystem – centered around the real needs of Tanzanians.”
Mobile money has become a critical enabler in Tanzania, especially in areas where traditional banking access remains limited. For millions, services like Mixx are a financial lifeline - allowing users to send and receive money, pay bills, access credit, and save for the future.
With the GSMA Certification now in hand, Mixx by Yas says it is more ready than ever to deepen its impact and broaden its reach - not only by serving individual users, but also by partnering with banks, fintechs, regulators, and businesses looking for a compliant and scalable digital finance partner.
“We see this milestone not as an end, but a beginning,” Ms. Pesha declared. “Our mission remains to connect every Tanzanian to safe, seamless, and secure financial services - and we are just getting started.”
