NSSF Iringa collects Sh24.5 Billion, enrolls 6,984 new members

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Iringa Region has collected a total of Sh24.5 billion in the financial year 2022/2023 out of its goal of collecting Sh28.6 billion.
This was stated on Friday by NSSF Iringa Regional Manager Mr. Jacob Sulle during the customer service week celebration.
Customer service week is celebrated every year around the world in the first week of October, which reminds service providers of the importance of good customer service but also of the importance of service providers.
He said that NSSF Iringa Region, during the same period, the fund enrolled a total of 6,984 members out of the target of enrolling 12,444 members, which is equal to 56 percent
Sulle explained that NSSF collections in Iringa Region are largely due to employers have invested in the industrial and agricultural sectors of commercial crops, food and forestry, where the region has three NSSF offices, which are the Regional Office - Iringa, the District Office - Mafinga and Mufindi Office.
He said that the number of active members of the fund until June 2023 in Iringa Region stood at 29,150, while the number of employers until June 2023 was at 705.
Also, total benefits of 12 billion shillings were paid during that period to members in the Iringa region.
In carrying out the duties of each, the office of the Iringa Region is facing various challenges including some employers not being paid contributions on time and others having arrears of debts for the contributions of their employees.
Sulle explained that there is a problem with employers concealing information and not providing sufficient cooperation to fund officials, some members forging documents required during the monitoring of their benefits.
Also, the poor awareness of members in the informal sector to join social security.
On her part, the Iringa Regional Commissioner Halima Dendego has committed to addressing these challenges, particularly within the informal sector.
She said plans are underway to reach every ward, division, and village to encourage more members to join social security.
She stressed that social security funds serve as vital security systems for citizens, their families, and the community at large, reinforcing the importance of savings.
