Ruling on Tigo case set for June 27

What you need to know:

The High Court of Tanzania has set June 27 as the date when it will deliver its ruling on a Stay of Execution application filed against a court judgment and decree that awarded Bongo Flava artistes Ambwene Yessaya (AY) and Hamisi Mwinjuma (Mwana FA) a settlement of Sh2.185 billion.

Dar es Salaam.

This was after MIC Tanzania (Tigo) through its lawyers, Law Associates, filed the application at the high court earlier this week pending an appeal.

In a lengthy submission by both sides that took over three hours, Tigo’s legal team argued that the citations made by the respondents did not hold sufficient ground to prevent the telecom company from being awarded its prayer. On the other hand, the artistes’ lawyers led by Albert Msando argued that the applicants had not met the legal requirements to be granted a Stay of Execution.

The respondents argued that the applicants had contravened the mandatory provisions of the law which required them to deposit a security for costs before the application was heard.
