The Commission is tasked with examining the causes and circumstances of the disturbances that marred the post-election period, amid opposition claims of irregularities and reports of clashes between protesters and security forces in several parts of the country.
Dodoma. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has established an Independent Commission of inquiry to investigate the civil unrest that erupted during and following Tanzania’s General Election on October 29, 2025.
The Commission will be chaired by retired Chief Justice Mohamed Chande Othman.
President Samia has appointed seven additional members noted for their experience in law, diplomacy, security, and regional governance:
• Professor Ibrahim Juma, retired Chief Justice of the High Court of Tanzania • Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, former Chief Secretary • Ambassador Radhia Msuya, former diplomat • Ambassador Lt. Gen. Paul Meela, former diplomat • Retired Inspector General of Police Said Ally Mwema, former head of the Tanzania Police Force • Ambassador David Kapya, former diplomat • Dr Stergomena Tax, former Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC)
