Tanzania police force dispatches detectives to investigate legislator’s assassination attempt reports

Dar es Salaam.  The Tanzania Police Force has launched an investigation into an alleged assassination attempt on SimanjIro Member of Parliament, Mr Christopher Ole Sendeka.

Reports indicate that Mr Sendeka narrowly escaped death after unknown gunmen attacked him.

According to the spokesperson for the Tanzania Police Force, Mr David Misime, a team of detectives has been dispatched to Manyara to probe the incident.

He said on Saturday, March 30, 2024, that the law enforcement agents were diligently pursuing the matter and assured that a comprehensive statement would be released once the investigations are concluded.

“The Police Force is closely pursuing the matter and investigations are currently on. A statement will be issued after completion of the investigations,” Mr Misiime said.

He said experts proficient in firearms from the Police Headquarters in Dodoma have been mobilized to collaborate with local authorities in Manyara Region to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

In his statement, Mr Sendeka expressed bewilderment regarding the motive behind the attack, asserting that he remains uncertain about the identity of the perpetrators.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of public officials in Tanzania, prompting heightened security measures and calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
