Tanzania to host AU-GCC labour mobility dialogue in December 2025

Doha. Tanzania will host the upcoming Labour Mobility Dialogue between the African Union (AU), Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Jordan, and Lebanon in December 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening international cooperation on labour and employment.
The announcement was made by Qatar’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, during a meeting with Tanzania’s Ambassador to Qatar, Habibu Awesi Mohamed, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Doha.
The Labour Mobility Dialogue is expected to bring together key stakeholders to address migration, employment standards, and workforce development across Africa and the Middle East. It also offers Tanzania a platform to enhance bilateral and multilateral labour relations.
During the meeting, Mr Awesi expressed his appreciation to the State of Qatar, particularly the Ministry of Labour, for its continued support in offering employment opportunities to Tanzanian citizens.
He announced that 800 Tanzanian drivers will be interviewed by Qatar’s state-owned transport company, Mowasalat Karwa, in Dar es Salaam between 22nd and 25th May 2025. He also requested support in fast-tracking visa issuance for those who pass the interviews.
In response, Sheikha Najwa confirmed Qatar’s readiness to facilitate the visa process and reiterated the country’s commitment to future employment collaborations.
She also mentioned that a technical assessment meeting would be scheduled soon to review and update the existing bilateral labour agreement between the two countries.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Tanzania-Qatar relations, focusing on job creation, economic development, and improved welfare for citizens in both nations.
