Ludewa. Tears flowed freely yesterday during the burial of former Ludewa MP Deo Filikunjombe, who died in a helicopter crash last Thursday.
Mourners paid their last respects as the coffin bearing the late Filikunjombe’s body was lowered into the grave in Ludewa, Njombe Region.
He was buried along with two other people – Egid Nkwera and Cansablanca Haule – who also died in the crash in the Selous Game Reserve.
Former National Assembly Speaker Anne Makinda led hundreds of mourners at the burial of the late Filikunjombe, who was seeking reelection after representing the constituency for five years from 2010.
The late Filikunjombe’s body was interred at around 4.30pm in a solemn ceremony presided over by Roman Catholic Diocese of Njombe Bishop Alfred Maluma.
Ms Makinda described the late CCM lawmaker as a rising political star, who put his constituents first during his time in Parliament.
She said the cruel hand of death had robbed Ludewa residents of a steadfast and selfless leader when they still needed him.
“His sudden demise has come as a shock to many of us. He did a lot for Ludewa residents during his five years in Parliament. No one would have thought that many areas of Ludewa would now have reliable power,” Ms Makinda said.
