Iringa. Three people died and six others were injured in a tragic road accident that occurred early Friday morning, July 18, 2025, in Kilolo District, Iringa Region.

The crash involved a minibus and a stationary lorry and has been linked to driver negligence.

Iringa Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Allan Bukumbi, confirmed the incident, saying the collision took place at around 6:00 a.m. in Imalutwa Village, Lugalo Ward, along the busy Morogoro–Iringa highway.

According to SACP Bukumbi, the minibus, driven by 45-year-old Akhan Mpagile from Njombe. Mpagile reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of a parked lorry belonging to Glenrich Transportation Co. Ltd.

The lorry, which was transporting flour from Dar es Salaam, had been left stationary on the roadside when the crash occurred.

The driver, Mr Akhan Mpagile, died on the spot along with his conductor, Mr Alfred Mgaya, also from Njombe, and a female passenger, Ms Feleschina Masigati (36), a resident of Imalutwa.

The driver of the parked lorry reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash. Police have since launched a manhunt and opened a formal investigation into the incident.

“Preliminary findings point to driver negligence. We are tracking down the truck driver who fled and continuing with investigations to establish full details of the accident,” said SACP Bukumbi.

He urged all road users to adhere to traffic regulations and drive cautiously, particularly along major highways known for frequent accidents.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Itunda Hospital mortuary as authorities work to notify their families and make funeral arrangements.
