TRC adds commuter train services to ease transport after closure of nine roads in Dar es Salaam

  • TRC said in a statement that it had introduced two additional commuter train frequencies between Pugu and Kamata stations to help ease transport challenges.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has announced the addition of two commuter train services to ease transport disruptions caused by the ongoing Mission 300 Energy Summit, which has led to the closure of several roads in the city.

Tanzania is hosting the high-profile summit, which has brought together 25 African Heads of State, including President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as well as representatives from 21 other African nations and leaders of six international organisations.

Chief Secretary Moses Kusiluka said that the two-day summit, which started on Monday, January 27, 2025, has registered a total of 2,600 participants from both within and outside Tanzania.

To facilitate the arrival of dignitaries, police have announced the temporary closure of nine major roads in Dar es Salaam for six days, starting Saturday, 25 January.

In response, TRC said in a statement that it had introduced two additional commuter train frequencies between Pugu and Kamata stations to help ease transport challenges.

"Due to the closure of some roads leading to the city centre, TRC has added two commuter train frequencies for two days," the statement read.

TRC said all other train routes would continue operating as per their normal schedule.

Additionally, TRC announced that all standard gauge railway (SGR) trains would now make a mandatory stop at Pugu station for passenger pick-up and drop-off, a move aimed at reducing public inconvenience caused by the road closures.
