Dar es Salaam. Women have been encouraged to prioritize their health to avoid illnesses that could hinder their economic progress.

Non-communicable diseases, particularly cancer, have been a growing concern among women, with many failing to undergo regular health check-ups, leading to late diagnoses and complications.

During a donation event at Mwananyamala Regional Referral Hospital on Friday, March 7, 2025, senior hospital health secretary, Ms Lydia Nzema, emphasized the importance of routine medical check-ups.

The event organized by Strategis Insurance Tanzania Limited, saw the company providing essential supplies to the hospital’s maternity ward as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The donation aims to enhance the hospital’s maternity care services and ensure that mothers and newborns receive the best possible care.

Ms Nzema stressed that health is fundamental to economic and family stability.

"Good health allows women to care for their families and contribute to the economy. While financial growth is important, it cannot be achieved without prioritizing good health and well-being," she said.

She urged women to take advantage of free cancer screening services to detect and prevent complications early.

"Many non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, can be screened for free. I encourage women to be proactive about their health and to enroll in health insurance plans for better access to medical services," Ms Nzema added.

Strategis Insurance marketing officer, Ms Fatma Kilinda, highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to maternal and child health, noting that this initiative aligns with International Women’s Day celebrations.

"For the past four years, we have been reaching out to mothers and newborns in maternity wards to provide much-needed support," she said.

Ms Kilinda also mentioned that this initiative would be extended beyond Mwananyamala Hospital and continue beyond International Women’s Day.

"Wherever there is a need, Strategis Insurance is committed to supporting mothers and children. We also encourage women to consider health insurance, as we offer affordable packages that cater to all," she added.

Through these efforts, Strategis Insurance remains committed to promoting healthcare access and supporting community well-being.
