75 swimming records up for grabs

Dar es Salaam. Seventy-five records are up for grabs as the Tanzania Swimming Club Championships enters its second and final day today at the International School of Tanganyika in the city.

The battle for medals on day one of the prestigious event saw swimmers breaking 33 national records with the big names of Hilal Hilal, Collins Saliboko, Dennis Mhini, Isam Sepetu, Judah Miller, Peter Itatiro, Rashid Delhm, Delvin Barick and Christian Shirima featuring on the list of record breakers.

Others are Sonia Tumiotto, Natalia Ladha, Smriti Gokarn, Natalie Sanford, Charlotte Sanford, Amylia Chali, Lia Rakusin,

But it is Hilal, Saliboko, Mhini, Natalia and Natalie who were the biggest achievers after breaking the record each in three categories.

Hilal broke 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, and 50m butterfly.

Information made available by the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) yesterday shows that since some record achievements were made as far back as 2013, no swimmer has managed to break them.

TSA secretary general Inviolata Itatiro cited one of the 2013 records that is yet to be broken as the 800m freestlyle attained by Hilal, who clocked 10.19.45 in the event.
