Dar es Salaam. Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has expressed deep disappointment following his team's failure to clinch the CAF Confederation Cup title but took the opportunity to commend his players for their bravery and effort across both legs of the final.

Simba were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco’s RS Berkane in the second leg at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar on Sunday, a result that saw them lose 3-1 on aggregate and miss out on continental glory.

Speaking after the match, Davids did not hide his frustration with the outcome, especially given his previous experience of losing a CAF Confederation Cup final to the same opponent.

"To be honest, I’m disappointed. This is the second time I’ve lost a CAF Confederation Cup final to RS Berkane the first was when I was with Orlando Pirates in 2022. That match also ended 1-1 and we lost on penalties. This result hurts,” said Davids.

Despite the loss, Davids was full of praise for his players, who he said displayed great courage and determination even when the odds were against them.

“I am extremely proud of the players. They showed incredible fighting spirit from the first whistle. We played against a very strong team RS Berkane, who won their domestic league with five matches to spare. But my boys stood tall and gave their all,” he said.

The match was filled with drama, including an unexpected red card that left Simba with 10 men. Davids noted how his side continued to press forward and even found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

“The red card was a setback, but I have no complaints about how we responded. Even with ten men, the players didn’t give up. We scored a goal that was unfortunately ruled out, but that just showed our intent. The fight, the discipline, and the energy were all there,” he said.

Davids highlighted that the defeat should not overshadow the team’s journey to the final and the growth they’ve shown throughout the competition. “Reaching the final is an achievement in itself. These boys have grown tremendously and shown they can compete at the highest level in African football. What’s important now is to keep this momentum, focus on the league, and prepare for the CAF Champions League next season,” he added.

Davids urged his players to stay proud of their effort and remain focused on future goals.

“They should walk with their heads held high and their chests out. They gave everything, and for that, I salute them,” he said.
